Committed to community development

We want to enable people living in the rural areas around La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano to participate in the wealth generated by tourists visiting the famous area of this famous volcano.
Therefore, we employ untrained staff from the nearby rural settlement Sonafluca and give them an on-the-job training to work at Casona Río Fortuna. Additionally, we contract local service providers from the area.

Our Cultour eco-cultural tour visits a local reforestation site and tree nursery, a private farmer home , and the primary school of Sonafluca. All of them earn an income from those visits.
As a commitment to the rural settlement of Sonafluca, we support the local Primary School and the Community Development Board. We meet with the representatives of both institutions on a regular basis and they communicate us their needs of material. We then purchase and donate the material required (e.g. school material and uniforms, building material, labour, technical equipment). Spontaneous donations made by participants of our Cultour are evenly distributed between the Primary School and the Community Development Board.
